Maurice Denis, The Eternal Spring

April 1 - July 15, 2012

Organized with the assistance of the artist's family and the support of the musée départemental Maurice Denis de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the aim of the exhibition was to discover or rediscover the poetry inherent in the painting of Maurice Denis, the "nabi aux belles icônes", through the theme of spring.

The exhibition comprised approximately eighty works, some of which had been displayed publicly only rarely or never at all in France, and included loans from the most prestigious public and private collections.

It also presented throughout a well known aspect of Denis's production, but one that is little included in exhibitions, that of his talent as a painter decorator. A selection of graphical works, supported by documentation in the form of photographs, correspondence and illustrated books, presented the studies and preparatory works that preceded the paintings and decors included in the exhibition.

The exhibition included exceptional loans from the musée départemental Maurice Denis – Conseil général des Yvelines.
