Program

Before the Water Lilies. Monet discovers Giverny, 1883-1890
from 27 March to 5 July 2026

To mark the centenary of Claude Monet’s passing, the museum presents an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the artist’s early years in the village, from his arrival in 1883 to the end of 1890, when he became the owner of his house and began designing the now-legendary garden.

These formative years saw Monet immerse himself in his new surroundings: poppies and poplars, willows and winding paths, the hills, and the gentle flow of the Epte and the Seine, all part of a landscape shaped by rain and mist, sunlight and shifting skies.

Bringing back to the very place of their creation the works through which the master of Impressionism made Giverny his own, the exhibition will offer visitors the rare and poetic experience of seeing the landscapes of Giverny through Monet’s eyes, both within the galleries and beyond them.

Carte blanche to Daniel Buren
from 17 July to 1 November 2026

In the summer of 2026, the museum will give carte blanche to artist Daniel Buren (born in 1938). The reputation of this French contemporary artist extends far beyond national borders. Known for his signature – white and colored vertical stripes – Buren’s in situ work explores the notions of place, framing, and context in art. Leading figure of conceptual art, Buren has transformed public spaces and museums around the world, playing with perception, architecture, and light. For this carte blanche, Daniel Buren will present a brand-new in situ creation that will engage in dialogue with the museum’s collections.
